Community Highlights: December

Each property that EngAGE serves marked the holiday season in a special way. At Burbank Senior Artists Colony, Programs Manager Megan Hocking reports: “Residents
ushered in the holiday season with the Hawaiian Holiday Celebration. The
stage was decorated with multi colored lights and tiki idols and the room was
strung with floral garlands. Every resident was greeted with a Mahalo and their
own floral lei. With many residents dressed for the tropical occasion, spirits
were high and the room was buzzing. The 13-piece Hawaiian band took the stage
and had residents swaying and singing along. The band leaders had fun with the
crowd and even went into a little comedy routine. After the 45 minute set,
residents and band members enjoyed holiday refreshments and conversation. Many
lingered long after the celebration and helped clean up. The band had such a
great time and wonderful reception that they volunteered to return in the
coming months.”

Christmas and kids go together, as Regional Programs Director Nancy Goodhart reports from Villa Anaheim: “Ninety carolers, the kindergarten class of Centralia Elementary School, visited the property and sang Christmas carols to a small but very warm and receptive audience of 12.  Several residents from Solara Court walked over and joined the group.  Residents complained their faces hurt after the 30 minute performance, because they had been smiling too hard and too long.   Children were accompanied by their teachers who led them in animated songs complete with reindeer movements, ho-ho-ho’s, and jolly laughs.  Residents cheered and clapped their every song.  Residents gave out candy canes to the performers as they exited center stage/community room.”

And, in the midst of their own holiday preparations, our residents thought about others far from home. Many worked throughout the past few months making many scarves that were donated to our servicemen who are deployed in different parts of the world. These San Antonio Gardens residents happily display their lovely work.
