News from Cotton’s Point: Community Outreach Alliance

EngAGE appreciates Community Outreach Alliance (COA), a non-profit that is working with Cotton’s Point Senior Apartments in San Clemente, CA.

COA surprises residents with food twice a month as well as provides shuttle service to their food bank (Food Connection) twice a month. Friendships are building and Community Outreach is reducing some financial stress.

Also, the 6-month long “Lunch and Learn” series started in May at Cotton’s Point. Participating residents enjoyed a wonderful lunch provided by COA and VITAS while they heard the presentation, “Taking Time for Me (Caring for Self as I Care For My Loved One). Over 25 residents filled up the community room for this helpful presentation.

COA’s primary mission is to bring drug and alcohol awareness and consequence programs to the children of the community. They partner with many schools in the Capistrano Unified School District to assist in curbing the numbers of students who have lost their battle with addiction and mental illness.

In addition to helping young people, they also have created an outreach for seniors, recognizing that many older people have spent their lives helping their children and grandchildren, and now it is their turn to need help. Many young volunteers make connections with our seniors that develop into beautiful relationships.

Please contact COA at (949) 388-0114 to get more information. COA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit service.
