Tavarua News

Working together as a community at Tavarua in Carlsbad: EngAGE Program Assistant Tracy Freeburg encouraged residents to help decorate the EngAGE bulletin boards. “Residents loved the idea and brought down decorations to add to the décor. One resident  commented, ‘This looks classy and is a great change of pace.’ It was wonderful to see residents work in a small group together. They recognized and encouraged each other’s ideas and input. They took great pride in the work that they completed for their property.”

Art class with Instructor Linda Luisi provides an opportunity for residents to explore their creativity through various mediums. “After a month of learning various techniques, they have branched out with confidence in their art work creativity.  Residents focused on an abstract water sunset and O’Keeffe-style floral abstract.  They used pastels, markers, and water techniques with chalk pastels. One resident told the instructor that she spends the whole week in her apartment in bed except for coming to Art Class. The residents continue to say thank you, and help clean up the tables. It was very rewarding to see one resident continue her card-making project while the others worked on their pastels.  She expressed that she really looks forward to sitting down with her fellow art class friends each time.”
