ENGAGE IN TRAINING - 1

Doug Wiskow, Sharon Springer, Brossy Reina: Ready to run!

Doug Wiskow (70), Regional Programs Director, Brossy Reina (68), Senior Olympics Coordinator and Sharon Springer (58), Executive Assistant are shown at the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station on one of their Sunday morning runs to the Hollywood Farmers Market.  Runs vary from about nine miles to about 13 miles depending on how they feel that morning.

An invitation from energetic EngAGE Team Member Sharon Springer!

We would like all ages to join us and here’s our fun, adventurous schedule:

  • Arrive at the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station between 6:00 and 6:15 a.m.
  • Buy a one way ticket from Union Station back to the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station.
  • Start our run at around 6:20 a.m.  Doug and Brossy’s tickets are $3.00 each and mine costs $6.00.
  • We run to Glendale via Lake Street and then run through Griffith Park and Los Feliz with a pit stop usually in the Park.
  • The hill through the Los Feliz neighborhood is about a mile long and has gotten a lot easier!
  • Make our way to Los Feliz Boulevard and greet our new friends whom we now see every Sunday morning out walking their dogs, running or engaging in other exercise routines.
  •  The conversation is usually light.
  • We run past the Leif Erickson bust and continue around the N. Western Avenue curve to the left and take a right onto Franklin.
  • I can now taste the coconut water that we will have at the Hollywood Farmers Market.
  • I pick up the pace.
  • We take a left at N. Bronson, right onto Carlos, left onto N. Gower, right onto Hollywood Boulevard.
  • I’m sprinting by now for the coconut water.
  • We arrive at Hollywood Boulevard and Ivar!
  • We’ve made lots of friends and they expect us by now.
  • We buy large size coconut water with lots of coconut chunks for a healthy breakfast second course.
  • We shop, maybe get more breakfast: pupusas, or breakfast scramble, and visit with friends.
  • Stop by Trader Joe’s.
  • Hop on the Red Line in the Union Station direction – purchase of our Metrolink tickets allows us to ride the Red Line for “free.”
  • Get off at Pershing Square and walk through Grand Central Market  – maybe get a snack – hey, we deserve it!
  •  Walk to the Civic Center stop and get back on the Red Line.
  • Arrive at Union Station, which is celebrating 75 years!  It’s beautiful!
  • Sit in the big chairs, people watch, and imagine who has passed through over the years.
  • Take the 11:40 a.m. train back to Downtown Burbank

Arrive Downtown Burbank at noon and we still have the whole day ahead of us!  Want to share a Glutenator at Story Tavern?
